Music to Keep Going

Were you thinking that this would be a post about Christmas music? It’s not. Silly you! Actually I had a different idea today and it stems from all the work I have to get done at the office before year-end. Nothing crushes your Christmas happiness quicker than working late at the office and since I have to work, I decided that I would share 5 songs that I am listening to right now.

  1. Andrew McMahon: Fire Escape
  2. The Head & The Heart: All We Ever Knew
  3. The Struts: Put Your Money On Me
  4. Dreamers: Sweet Disaster
  5. Fifth Harmony: That’s My Girl

Grateful for Life

I hope everyone had a wonderful day yesterday and I hope it was spent among family and friends. My mother sent me an email a couple of weeks ago and shared with me a fun article she had read in the newspaper. It was a list of the Top Ten Thanksgiving Day songs compiled by the Daily Herald. You can access the article here.

That made me think about the songs I associate with the holiday or songs that make me feel more gratitude in my life. Below are 5 songs from my list.

  1. Sly & The Family Stone: Thank You
  2. Bill Withers: Lean On Me
  3. Louis Armstrong: What a Wonderful World
  4. American Authors: Best Day of My Life
  5. Johnny Mercer & The Pied Pipers: Accentuate the Positive

Dark Magic

Since this is the music post and since it is so close to Halloween; I have decided to share music I like that has the theme “dark” in it or around it. I was inspired by Morticia Addams as I watched The Addams Family. Enjoy!

  1. Melody Gardot: Your Heart is as Black as Night
  2. Charles Gounod: Funeral March of a Marionette
  3. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Requiem in D Minor
  4. Bruce Springsteen: Dancing in the Dark
  5. Fall Out Boy: My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark

Plus a few extras!

  1. Lana Del Rey: Dark Paradise
  2. Frederic Chopin: Funeral March (Piano Sonata No 2 in B Flat Minor)
  3. Ludwig Van Beethoven: Moonlight Sonata

Setting the Scene

I am not sure what is going on in your next of the woods but things have certainly transitioned from summer to fall in a hurry. It has been fun watching the leaves change colors and litter the ground in color. The temperature has already been dropping and I find myself turning on the heat in the car while driving to work in the early morning hours. I feel the need to start cuddling up in blankets, wear sweaters and use more of the color in orange in everything I do.

Does anyone else feel like this? Does it make you sad for the loss of summer or excited for the change? I am a fence sitter when it comes to the last question. I really like summer but I really like fall as well. So to help the transition; here is a play list to help ease the process.

What songs do you think of when the outside world transitions?

  1. Earth, Wind & Fire: September
  2. Dashboard Confessional: Stolen
  3. Ed Sheeren: Autumn Leaves
  4. The White Stripes: We Are Going to be Friends
  5. Mazzy Star: Fade Into You
