Finding the Best of Halloween

So I know this is traditionally the post about the best places I have been . . . and believe me, the list is very long. However, all week I was thinking about all the fun things that I would like to do in regards to my favorite time of year, fall and, my favorite holiday, Halloween.

This year has been weird with the move, the lack of cooler weather on a consistent basis, missing my Halloween decorations and of course no party. I have really tried to get in the mood but for some reason I still feel like I am on some extended summer vacation.

So I have been dreaming about all of the things that I want to do in my life regarding fall and Halloween and I decided that I would share with you my top five. Do any of you have a fall dream?

  1. Ireland– yes, Ireland. I want to be there not for St. Patrick’s Day but for Halloween since technically Halloween is an ancient Druid holiday started by the Celts. We can visit the church that inspired Bram Stoker to write Dracula, climb up an old decaying castle at midnight and tell ghost stories and I am sure, party with the best of them in Dublin.
  2. Romania–I guess we can see why I would want to go here. I would actually love to participate in one of the Halloween parties that take place every year at the Bran Castle (Dracula’s Castle).
  3. Mexico–so the celebration starts on October 31st but it goes until November 2nd because it is Dias de los Muertos! Fiesta anyone?! Mexico is full of such vibrate color and life and to celebrate your ancestors for 3 days . . . what could be more wonderful than that? 🙂
  4. Salem, Massachusetts–You have to visit the “Witch City” at least once in your life. Besides that, everyone knows how beautiful the fall foliage is this time of year in Massachusetts as well. Make a weekend of it!
  5. Fall Drives–that is right; you can’t celebrate this season without taking a leisure drive through beautiful country, stopping at cider mills for hot cider and donuts. I have been on at least 5 of these in my life time and I am positive there are more and the most important one I still need to do is drive through Sleep Hallow, Vermont.

HAVE A WONDERFUL FALL SEASON AND A HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I Quote

Do you ever have those moments when someone says just the right thing and it clicks? It is your brief epiphany and upon further reflection you realize that what was said sums up what you spent 20 minutes trying to tell your girlfriends? I have many moments like these and so quotes have become a HUGE part of my life. I have quotes that have a permanent place and some that I cycle through. I have my Pinterest quote board and my fridge magnets. So I decided to share a few of my favorites quotes on Pinterest. I have decided to give you 5 categories for the quotes and maybe, (once I get all of my things moved into the same state that I am), I will share my long-standing quotes with everyone.

Please share with me your favorite quotes!

Friends

Friendship isn’t about who you’ve known the longest. It’s about who walked into your life, said “I’m here for you” and proved it.

Comical

I am more confused than a chameleon in a bag of skittles.

Relationships

It’s funny how when I’m loud people tell me to be quiet. But when I am quiet, people ask me what’s wrong with me.

Self-Worth

Rejection doesn’t mean that you aren’t good enough; it means the other person failed to notice what you have to offer.

Spiritual

Take heart. Defend your belief. Be strong. Live the gospel faithfully. Forge unshakable faith. Remain steadfast. It is worth it.

The Curse

That is exactly what it is–a curse. What is a curse you may ask? A head cold. Yes, the common head cold that ruins your life because your too sick to make basic decisions but not sick enough for people to have real sympathy like they do when you have the flu.  You get to still exist in the world, going about your daily life, like nothing is the matter because you are functioning enough. Never mind that you haven’t slept in a couple of days because you can’t breathe. That food tastes funny and everything smells weird once you can breathe through your nose again. Or the fact your whole head is sitting in a fog thick enough even for you to believe you are in a creepy movie plot.

Such has been my life for the last week. I have had to endure my long daily commute (thank heavens the roads were clearer than usual). I have had to make detailed work decisions and I got to go on vacation this weekend with it. The only saving grace in this whole process has been the remedies that I have taken. So here is to the top five things that helped me survive this round of the common head cold.

  1. Airborne: If you have never used this product, there might be something wrong with you. It is wonderful at keeping you from getting sick while sickness is around you and at helping you get better faster during it.  Capture
  2. Emergen-C: Once again, if you haven’t used it, you need to think twice about your medicating actions. 🙂 It is also a great pick me up during your cold and great at preventing you from getting the cold. Capture
  3. Afrain Nasal Spray: I really hated nasal sprays as a kid because they were weird. As an adult, I only mildly like them because of living in a dry climate and common nose bleeds BUT when you are sick and you can’t breathe at night; this is salvation in a bottle. Capture
  4. Kleenex: Tissues are your only friend during this horrible time but even they can be horrible if using the wrong ones. A few years ago I stumbled upon the best invention EVER! Kleenex makes Cool Touch Tissues and believe me, you will welcome the opportunity to blow your nose. Seriously 🙂 Capture
  5. Soup and rest: Although it is really hard to sleep when you have a head cold; when you can sleep it is wonderful because it is deep and you know that your body is repairing. It is also great when your best friend just happens to make some amazing soup to help nourish you on the inside.

What remedies do you use when the common cold strikes?

The Daily Grind

Do you ever have those days when enough is enough?

I do.

In fact, I have it every Friday while driving this intense commute. By the 5th day of the week, I really don’t want to be behind the wheel of the car which leads me to this post.

The only thing that keeps me going is music. I listen to all genres and all ages of music (yes,  I have been known to sing LET IT GO within the safe confines of my steel beast). Music seems to have the ability to keep me from driving like a maniac and being irritated with my fellow drivers (as I sure they are with me).

So here is the music that I enjoyed while commuting to the office today. What do you listen to in order to stay sane?

  1. Rod Stewart–Love Is
  2. Deee-Lite–Groove Is In The Heart
  3. Jeannie C. Riley–Harper Valley PTA
  4. American Authors–Best Day of My Life
  5. Herman’s Hermits–Can’t You Feel My Heartbeat
