The Music Tells the Story

Did you know that Halloween is a week away? I can’t believe it! I am more mad that the whole season escaped me then about anything else going on right now and that includes the exorbitant amount of money I have had to pay out during this transition of my life. I am determined to make the most of it for the last week. In fact, I made a trip to one of my favorite fall spots this week: Sauvie Island. Β It was a lot of fun just hanging out with my Mom while she is here helping me unpack. Thank heavens for Mom’s and Dad’s!! I don’t know about your families but I do know that I got stuck with some of the most wonderful people in the world! πŸ™‚

Since this is the music post; I decided to do something a little different. I am going to share my top 5 classical music songs that remind me of fall or Halloween. Got to get in the mood right? πŸ™‚

What songs remindΒ of fall and/or Halloween? Please share!!

  1. Funeral March of a Marionette by Charles GounodΒ
  2. Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus MozartΒ
  3. Moonlight Sonata by Ludwig Van Beethoven (Side note: I actually play this on the piano)Β
  4. Simple Gifts from Appalachian Spring by Aaron CopelandΒ
  5. The Four Seasons (Autumn) by Antonio Vivaldi

Madison Wisconsin

Yes, Friday came and went. It was a recovery day for myself and my family and is also why I am posting today instead. Β I flew into Madison, Wisconsin for my sister’s wedding on Thursday. It was a beautiful wedding and a whirlwind time in a beautiful state. I wish I would have had more time to explore and I could use some ideas of what to see the next time I am there. In the meantime, here are 5 things that I loved while I was there for two days.

  1. Obviously, my sister’s wedding. She was married out at Badger Farms enjoying the beautiful Madison countryside.Β IMG_5973
  2. I use to live in Kansas and one thing that I miss the most from the Midwest is the thunderstorms. There was a fantastic storm during my sister’s wedding.Β IMG_6145
  3. We went out to beautiful Lake Mendota the day after the wedding.Β IMG_6270
  4. We also perused the campus of University of Wisconsin-Madison and had to get Wisconsin cheese.Β IMG_6376
  5. Right before we headed into Illinois, we had to stop in Beloit, WI and take a picture as a cheese-head.Β IMG_6398

The Commute

So I am still looking for that perfect place to put down roots. I am planning on renting right now and in the future buying after I have had plenty of time to stake out ideal areas and the best price. In the meantime, I haven’t stumbled upon what I really want even for renting. It is okay except for the HORRIFIC COMMUTE.

On a good commute I can make it to my office in 1 hour. On a typical commute, 1 1/2 hours. On a bad commute 2 1/2 hours ++

SHOOT ME NOW!!!

I have to be up by 4:15 every morning and on a night like last night–I got home at 8. I actually quit my last job in the hopes of having some more “me” time only to now findΒ that I am developing a very deep and personal relationship with my car. Don’t get me wrong, I love my car but I didn’t want to be married to it.

So I have decided to share my top 5 views along my commute. If you have a commute what beautiful thing do you get to look at?

  1. Mt. HoodΒ
  2. Columbia RiverΒ
  3. Willamette RiverΒ
  4. Downtown PortlandΒ
  5. Fort VancouverΒ

Being My Own Esthetician

Hello Everyone!

I hope your week is going well. Mine is busy as ever with my sister’s upcoming wedding.

Since I still don’t currently have a job, I had to cancel my monthly facials. Got to spare the funds!! So I have been trying to figure out ways to keep my skin looking great. I turned to a slew of homemade remedies to see if any of them will do the trick. Here is what I found out.

  1. Basil Water: You are to boil fresh basil in water and then add a drop or two of lavender essential oils then steam your face for ten minutes to open up your pores. This was actually great but don’t breathe too deeply in the beginning or you might have a coughing fit.

  1. Chamomile Tea Bags: Steep in cold water for 5 minutes then apply to your eyes for 10-20 minutes to reduce dark under eye circles. This was very relaxing and I thought it reduced the discoloration but not the puffiness.

  1. Lemon Baking Soda: Mix lemon juice with baking soda into a paste and then apply to the areas with blackheads. They were removed but be particular about getting it everywhere you want them removed.

  1. Burning Mask: A mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg, honey, lemon juice and I added baking soda to the original recipe. It does burn for a few minutes but it actually smelled great and my skin felt much smoother afterwards. I didn’t see any noticeable difference but I will follow the instructions for continued use to see if it will really clear up the imperfections on my face.

5.Β Lavender Essential Oil: I have actually been using this for a while now and it has been great. Just a drop or two is great on blemishes. They don’t spread and the poreΒ cleans itself out pretty quickly.

May the force be with you and your skin!! πŸ™‚
