What’s Playing Now

I have to admit something . . . I don’t like summer for only one reason. I am sure some of you might think it is because of the temperatures but no. I hate the fact that my commute in the evenings has increased exponentially due to vacationers. It feels like a major accomplishment every night that I finally make it home for the evening. So with all of that extra time in my car, I have lots of extra time to listen to music. I also can’t listen to anything that doesn’t have a significant beat. (Girl has to stay awake somehow!)

So here are the songs that as of late are helping me stay alert while I pursue the course of getting home. (FYI: In the morning my commute time is about 30 minutes. In the evenings, it is anywhere from 1-3 hours.) See what I am talking about!

  1. Just Like Fire by Pink
  2. Can’t Stop the Feeling by Justin Timberlake
  3. Something to Believe In by Young the Giant
  4. Mess Around by Cage the Elephant
  5. Brand New by Ben Rector

Gotta Have the Hair

This week both my friend who is visiting and I have appointments to get our hair done. I am continuing the process of going back to blonde and I will be spending quite a bit of time at the salon. That got me thinking . . . today’s post are my top 5 songs that have some relevance to hair. Enjoy!

  1. Obvious Hair Song: Cut Your Hair by Pavement
  2. Another Obvious: Hair by Lady Gaga
  3. The Musical: The Nicest Kids in Town from Hairspray
  4. Summer Hair Song: Let Your Hair Down by MAGIC!
  5. 80’s Hairband: Here I Go Again by Whitesnake

Flashback to 1995

I am pretty excited about this weekend. I get to spend it hanging out with my best friend. We met in Hawaii in 1995. I moved there from Kansas and she moved from Colorado. We were freshmen in college and both looking for work. As luck would have it we both took a job at the Seasider Grill. It was not the most glamorous job but it did help us make money. I have to admit that we got off on the wrong foot which probably had something to do with our backgrounds. I grew up in Los Angeles. I was use to the beach, Disneyland and shopping. She grew up in a tiny town in Colorado with “hippy” parents and was use to hiking, camping and folk singing. While our outside appearances were starkly different; we were actually quite similar on the inside. We both wanted pretty much the same things out of life and in some ways we were the ying and the yang to each other. A good balance if you ask me.

So what do you with a 21-year-old friendship to celebrate? Not much different from when we met. We will most likely spend our day talking about every topic under the sun. Give each other encouragement to keep going with the chaos of our lives. Discover a new place while we visit an old haunt and probably sneak a treat in to cap the day off.

To commemorate the weekend, spark memories, and generally feel older; I thought I would list the top 5 songs of 1995.

Enjoy your friendships!!

  1. Gangsta Paradise by Coolio
  2. Waterfalls by TLC
  3. Creep by TLC
  4. Kiss From a Rose by Seal
  5. On Bended Knee by Boyz II Men

Reminiscing

So last weekend Sirius Radio debuted the Prom station and it was SOOO much fun to listen to. Thanks for playing Richard Marx, Right Here Waiting  . . . I can almost smell the Aqua Net on my super curly hair. This week MSN ran an article about the top summer songs over the last 30 years. You can read the article here. So after reviewing the list, I have my top 5 songs of summer from years past from that list. What are some of your favorite songs of summer?

  1. Steve Winwood: Roll With It
  2. TLC: Waterfalls
  3. Rihanna: Umbrella
  4. Carly Rae Jepsen: Call Me Maybe

Have a great Memorial Day weekend everyone!
