Cooking With the 12-year Old

One thing I find important is spending time with the kids in my life. Years ago I decided that when the kids have their twelfth birthday, they will spend a week with me doing whatever they want (within reason). Mostly, it gives me time to just listen and talk with them about what is important to them. The most recent 12-year-old is the one I have been cooking with since she was a toddler. We really enjoyed our time in the kitchen so this week was no exception. Below are the recipes for all the “fun” items we made this week.

Peach Ginger Paleo Muffins
Coconut Milk Fudgesicles

Almond Flour Thumbprint Cookies

Lemon Blueberry Paleo Muffins
Paleo Blueberry Pie Crumb Bars

Not Your Usual Sweets

It is that time of year again when everyone turns on their ovens and starts baking. This year for me is a little different. I have actually given up sugar . . .actually even more then that, I have given up sugar, sweeteners of any kind, and any food that tastes sweet. I am not sure if or when I might incorporate somethings back into my diet but it won’t be for awhile.

In the meantime, I was thinking about everyone else with this post. Sometimes that greatest step we can make for ourselves is making the smallest change. Consider baking this year but using different flours, different sweeteners, or adding veggies to the mix. You never know but you might end up with something new you like.

So here are 5 recipes to get you thinking outside of the box.

  1. Paleo Chocolate Chip Cookies
  2. Coconut Macadamia Bars
  3. Healthy Chocolate Donuts
  4. Deep Dish Salted Caramel Chocolate Chip Blondies
  5. Homemade Healthy Tagalongs
