In Your Habitat

The post this week arose from a conversation I had recently with some friends. What animals would you love to see in their natural habitat? Everyone had their favorite as answers came petty quick. We were also able to make a list of animals we don’t EVER want to see in their natural habitat. For me that would include any kind of snake. (I will not be standing in a crowd watching a snake charmer in India).

This conversation then morphed into an article I read in Popular Mechanics about animals that live in the United States that you might not have known about. You can read the article here.

With all of this discussion, I realized that I need to know a little more about the animal kingdom beyond the zoo experience.

So what animal would you like to see in their natural habitat?

  1. Giant Panda: No joke; I went to China and spent a month there and never once went to the sanctuary to see the pandas. My loss for the time being.
  2. Kiwi: I think they are an absolutely fascinating bird.
  3. Great White Shark: I know this sounds absolutely crazy but there is a huge part of me that wants to go down in one of the cages and actually see them for real. Okay, I would settle for being on a boat. (The theme from Jaws is actually playing in my head right now).
  4. Walrus: They are so interesting to me. I really want to know everything about them.
  5. Elephant: I have actually seen them before not in a zoo but to really see them in their habitat would be incredible.

Entertaining the Kids—Entertaining You

We are getting closer to the kids being out of school and that means everyone will need to start coming up with ways to entertain the kids so they don’t go berserk from boredom. So here a few suggestions:

  1. Make a skateboard swing: I soooo want one!
  2. If you aren’t lucky enough to camp outside, then camp inside.
  3. Science projects galore!
  4. Monster story-telling
  5. Make it rain!

Songs to Brighten Your Day

Do you know what we need?

Sunshine!

So here are five songs to bring out the “sunshine in your soul”.

  1. Oh, What a Beautiful Morning from Oklahoma!
  2. Bright by Echosmith
  3. You Are My Sunshine sung by Gene Autry
  4. Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah from Song of the South
  5. Brighter Than The Sun by Colbie Caillat

Spring Break Family Time

So I just got back from a mini-vacation or in my world, my spring break. I went to Utah to visit with family. It was great! I always enjoy spending time with my family. A mini get-away was exactly what my doctor should have ordered for me. But . . . sometimes I have wonderful fantasies about where I would really like to go for spring break (should time and money never be a factor). Don’t get me wrong—I love my family and I don’t mind using up my vacation time to be with them. So here is my list of spring break vacations I would like to take with my family so that I can have the best of both worlds.

  1. First trip would be with my parents and we would head to New Zealand. My Dad lived there long ago and it would be wonderful to go there with him.
  2. A camping trip would have to be made with my sister and her family to British Columbia.
  3. Of course there would be a girl’s only trip to Hawaii.
  4. Then a trip for the kids to Walt Disney World.
  5. Finishing off with a trip for the whole family to Sweden so we can learn more about our heritage.
